@KickAssBrockSamson @carlsonbjj @Geodesix @jwilson13 @programmer_Ali My colleague is one of the authors on this paper so I have some interesting insight on the mechanism. Part of the reason that a bolus of fructose is more harmful to the gut than sucrose has to do with the fact that the gut gets all the fructose at once. This causes endotoxin release because it rips apart the gut epithelia and mucin breaks down. This reason this does not happen with sucrose is because it is broken down by sucrases, enzymes in the gut that convert sucrose to fructose and glucose. This is much easier on the gut as it does not get a major bolus of fructose.

The fructose in fruit has a different effect on the gut than fructose corn syrup does for multiple reasons including other compounds in fruits that feed gut epithelia cells so they handle the fructose.
