The most robust effect from this trial was the breaking apart amyloid beta plaques in the brain, but the cognitive benefits were preliminary and depended on the type of test used to measure cognition. There were also some detrimental side effects that happen in some people given very high doses of the antibody, which need to be understood before this immunotherapy can be considered a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.
