Omega-3 supplementation in healthy humans increases several species of beneficial gut bacteria that produce short-chain fatty acids (double-blinded, randomized controlled trial).

Supplementation with omega-3 PUFAs was associated with increased abundance of butyrate-producing ‘beneficial’, bacterial genera such as Bifidobacterium, Lachnospira, Roseburia, and Lactobacillus.

An increase in SCFA-producing bacteria such as Bifidobacterium has been shown to reduce mucosal inflammatory tone in the gut.

@trekowsk You can distinction between: - Saturated (SFA) - Monounsaturated (MUFA) and polyunsaturated (PUFA)

Omega-3s (and -6s & -9s) are types of unsaturated fats, where omega-3 is a polyunsaturated one (PUFA), where the 3 in the name (Omega-3) refers to how far it’s located from the end of the fatty acid ( (the end is named the ω aka omega)!

I thought “Omega-3” and “PUFA’s are opposites?!? Can someone explain the difference? What are examples of "Omega-3 Pufa? Krill Oil?
