Dr. Mark Gordon (endocrinologist from Joe Rogan podcast no. 700) would suspect that the socially isolated humans are low on pregnenolone.

In JRE #700 Dr. Mark Gordon advocated over-the-counter pregnenolone as a good alternative to cure anxiety and depression. What do you think about that, and hormone replacement in general?

Isn’t that what amphetamines do? Wim Hof knows something :)

@gf Sorry for the late replay, I somehow missed this. Interesting, I had never heard of this so I looked it up. I found a study that used crude banana peel (M. paradisica) extracts of unripe, ripe, and leaky ripe banana fruit. The study found that the banana peel extract had hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, so it basically serves as an antioxidant. Here is the study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3644576/

It looks like it’s packed with … stuff. Do you think L-dopa does more than just being an anti-oxidant? Unfortunately I’m not sure I can interpret these results (or even access the full papers right now) but:

Dopamine levels ranged from 80−560 mg per 100 g in peel and 2.5−10 mg in pulp

            http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf9909860

Banana peel contained large amounts of dopamine and L-dopa,

The protein content in peel of the banana and plantain was 8–11% […] Potassium was the most significant mineral element.

@janine Yes! This paper is awesome! The tumerone was able to increase the neural stem cell population by 45%. That is robust and similar to what some neurotropic growth factors can do. I’m really excited about this data!

Does cooking (boiling) destroy the beneficial compounds found in turmeric?

                1. 2

I have not read any literature that curcumin or tumerone are heat-sensitive.

Then this makes supplementing with turmeric and piperine very easy, and delicious :) In fact, I used to do it unknowingly dozens of times before.

South Pacific natives (people!) have had this diet all their lives, so they must be never aging superhumans.

Not sure if this was sarcasm, but south pacific people are in fact known for their longevity and are considered to be in a blue zone.
