Lifestyle changes and metformin can delay or even prevent type 2 diabetes in people with prediabetes, but it remains unclear whether they also reduce the long-term risk of developing other chronic diseases. Researchers tested this possibility by tracking the long-term health of people who had participated in an earlier clinical trial.
The original trial randomly assigned 3,234 adults with prediabetes to intensive lifestyle support, metformin, or placebo. During the roughly three-year trial, the lifestyle program aimed for at least 7% weight loss through lower calorie and fat intake and at lea...

Individuals who drank green tea, oolong tea, or black tea 4x/week for 25 yrs had more efficient brain connections in certain brain regions compared to non-tea drinkers. The same research group previously found that tea consumption was linked to a 50% reduction in cognitive decline.
Since this was not a randomized controlled trial it is difficult to establish causation but the results are interesting and worth sharing!

The study included around 30,500 people and those individuals that reported improved sleep quality over an 8 week period had a 2 point increase in a survey used to monitor psychological well-being in patients. This same increase in well-being was found after somebody has won a jackpot of around £200,000.
While this study does not establish causality, many other studies have found that sleep is very important for mental and physical wellbeing.

Air pollution kills? 22% increased risk of dying from all cancers for every 10 µg/m³ exposure to particulate matter. The study looked at 66,280 in Hong Kong and also found the same amount of exposure to particulate matter was associated with an 80% increased risk of mortality from breast cancer, 42% increased risk of mortality from cancer in the upper digestive tract, 36% increased risk of dying of lung cancer.

This study was able to pinpoint the 10% increase in body mass to altered gut bacteria by transplanting the gut microbiome from mice given the risperidone drug to the control mice and the same effect occurred.
Risperidone is a common drug that is used to treat autism, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia in adults and children and its prescribing rate has increased 8-fold in the last 2 decades.

A long-term study of more than 200 wild female baboons finds that the most sociable females live two to three years longer than their socially isolated counterparts. Socializing with males gave females an even bigger longevity boost than socializing with other females, the researchers found.
