        [Story] Lean pork stimulates more muscle protein synthesis after exercise than high-fat pork, despite equal protein content
      </h3>
</a>    <p>
      After exercise, many people reach for a protein-rich meal to help muscles recover and grow. But foods with the same protein amount do not always trigger the same muscle-building effect. A new study from the University of Illinois tested whether the amount of fat in pork affects how the body uses the food&#39;s protein to rebuild muscle after strength training.
Sixteen healthy, active adults (12 men and 4 women, average age 25) completed two experimental trials, each consisting of a resistance exercise session followed by one of three post-workout meals: a lean ground-pork patty (20 grams of prote...

        [Story] Exercising may be more more effective than food restriction in helping limit daily calorie consumption, new research shows.

      From the article:
&amp;gt; Where an energy (calorie) deficit was achieved by food restriction, participants showed increased levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin and lower levels of a hunger suppressing hormone peptide YY. They also ate almost a third more at a buffet meal compared with another occasion when the same energy deficit was created via exercise (participants ate an average 944 calories following food restriction compared to 660 calories after exercise).

      A new pilot study found people practicing time-restricted eating within a 6-hour period and fasting for 18 hours improved fat-burning and lowered their levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin compared to people who ate the exact same meals in a 12-hour period.
If you have not checked out our comprehensive article on the science of time-restricted eating...I highly suggest you do! We will be adding this new study under the section on metabolism.

</a>    <p>
      A randomized controlled trial in formula-fed infants given meat-based or dairy-based complimentary diets (same total calories, protein, and fat) showed the length-for-age increased in the meat group and declined in the dairy group.
In terms of overweight risk, the dairy group was at higher risk compared with that of the meat group.
In summary, these findings suggest that protein intakes from
complementary foods can significantly affect infant growth and possibly overweight risks. Larger clinical trials need to confirm.

      Bacteria transplanted from healthy humans into mice did not have the same effect.
Three weeks after the fecal transplant, mice given the gut bacteria from IBS patients also had higher gut permeability. Distinct bacterial species and metabolites derived from humans correlated with the anxiety behavior in mice.
It has previously been shown that inflammatory molecules produced as a consequence of gut permeability can cross the blood-brain barrier and lead to anxiety and depression. Additionally, the vagal nerve connecting the gut to the brain may also be at play here.

      FTA:
&amp;gt; Oleate, a common dietary fat found in olive oil, restored proper metabolism of fuel in an animal model of heart failure, researchers report. Heart failure affects nearly 5 million Americans, and more than half a million new cases are diagnosed each year. Heart failure is not the same as having a heart attack -- it is a chronic disease state where the heart becomes enlarged, or hypertrophic, in response to chronic high blood pressure which requires it to work harder to pump blood.
