Lungs that were bioengineered and made in the lab were successfully transplanted into pigs. The pigs grew new blood vessels surrounding the lungs and were able to survive ranging from 10 hours to 2 months after the transplant.

There is still more work to be done before these are ready for human use. The lungs did connect to the circulatory system they did not connect to the pulmonary arteries. This work is a very exciting first step!
