Sedentary behavior, whether during leisure time or work, increases a person’s risk for chronic disease and premature death. “Exercise snacks” – brief periods of intense exercise conducted throughout the day – may counter some of the harmful effects of sedentary behavior. This review describes the science supporting the use of exercise snacks to bolster cardiorespiratory fitness in sedentary adults.
