New blood test can detect autism in children by measuring oxidative stress and advanced glycation end products (AGES).

Higher levels of an oxidation biomarker and certain sugar-modified compounds called advanced glycation end products were found in the plasma from children with autism spectrum disorder.

The biomarkers may also shed some light on some contributing factors for autism including oxidative stress. The findings of this study still need to be replicated in larger trials before any conclusions can be made.
