More evidence that sulforaphane (high in broccoli sprouts) may have positive effects on the brain. A pilot trial finds sulforaphane treatment increased glutathione levels (the body and brain’s most abundant antioxidant) in the blood and hippocampus region of the brain in healthy people.

This may have implications for not only for neurological conditions such as autism (which 4 clinical trials have already shown sulforaphane may help improve) but also for neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease as well as traumatic brain injury. Animal studies have shown that sulforaphane helps all of these neurological conditions.
