[Story] Clarifying the Heterogeneity in Response to Vitamin D in the Development, Prevention, and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Narrative Review
      </h3>
</a> <p>
The research on vitamin D supplementation and its effects on the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes is extensive and often yields inconsistent results. This review investigates the factors contributing to the diverse outcomes observed in response to vitamin D therapy for type 2 diabetes, including bioavailability, sex, and autoimmune disorders.

[Story] Vitamin C and taurine normalize blood vessel endothelial functioning as measured by flow mediated dilation

      From the article:
&amp;gt; Bouchier-Hayes and colleagues recruited 15 healthy smokers aged 20 to 37 and 15 healthy non-smoking volunteers. The smokers were given either two grams per day of vitamin C for five days or 1.5 grams per day of taurine.
[...]
&amp;gt; The researchers report that taurine restored normal vessel function according to [flow mediated dilation (FMD)] measurements. At baseline, non-smokers&#39; blood vessel diameter was 3.39 mm and smokers&#39; diameter was 3.33. Before treatment, FMD increased dilation in non-smokers to 3.7 mm, while smokers&#39; vessels were virtually unchanged at 3.36 mm ...

[Story] Study shows Vitamin C may lower blood pressure by nearly 5 mm Hg in hypertensive patients.

</a> <p>
      From the article:
&amp;gt; Miller and his colleagues reviewed and analyzed data from 29 randomized, controlled, previously published clinical trials that reported systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure values and also compared vitamin C intake to a placebo. What they found is that taking an average of 500 milligrams of vitamin C daily -- about five times the recommended daily requirement -- reduced blood pressure by 3.84 millimeters of mercury in the short term. Among those diagnosed with hypertension, the drop was nearly 5 millimeters of mercury.

      From the article:
&amp;gt; The Salford team recently showed Vitamin C to be up to ten times more effective at stopping cancer cell growth than pharmaceuticals such as 2-DG [an inhibitor of glycolysis], but they say that when Vitamin C is combined with an antibiotic, it is up to ten times more effective, making it nearly 100 times more effective than 2-DG.
Also very interesting:
&amp;gt; The Salford team also identified eight other drugs that could be used as a &quot;second-punch&quot; after the antibiotic regime, including berberine (a natural product) -- and a number of cheap non-toxic FDA approved drugs.

This study was too small to get any significant effect on overall survival so a larger scale trial is being planned to evaluate the effect of vitamin D on overall survival in colorectal cancer patients.
This gene and bioengineering press release does a good job explaining the research and interviewing the study authors. It is worth a quick read.

A pooled analysis of randomized controlled trials and prospective studies finds that women with blood levels of vitamin D in the 60 ng/ml range had an 80% lower breast cancer risk compared to women with less than 20 ng/ml.
Another randomized controlled trial found that men given 4,000 IU of vitamin D per day slowed cancer progression and improved tumors in men with low-grade prostate cancer (compared to men given placebo).
In a 2009 paper published in the Annals of Epidemiology by the authors of this study, they recommended vitamin D levels between 40 to 60 ng/ml based on lowest all-cause mort...
