        [Story] Late-life treatment with the GLP-1 receptor agonist semaglutide extended lifespan, preserved physical function, and improved memory in female mice.
      </h3>
</a>    <p>
      Calorie restriction does more than reduce body fat; it also changes how cells maintain and repair themselves. Researchers investigated whether semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist widely used for weight loss, could reproduce some of those effects when given late in life.
The experiments began in female mice at 20 months of age. One randomized comparison followed 40 mice receiving daily semaglutide and 39 receiving inactive saline injections until their death. Separate mice underwent three months of treatment before tests of memory, physical abilities and glucose control, alongside cellular s...

        [Story] Fecal microbiota transplantation resets gut microbial composition of infants born via C-section to a healthier profile.
      </h3>
</a>    <p>
      Establishment of the healthy infant gut begins at birth when the infant is exposed to the microbial milieu of the mother&#39;s vaginal canal. Consequently, the gut microbial profile of infants delivered by Caesarean section differs markedly from those delivered vaginally and may contribute to greater risk for disease in both early and later life. Evidence from a new study suggests that fecal microbiota transplantation can reset the gut microbial composition of infants born via Caesarean section to a healthier profile.
The study involved seven pregnant women (scheduled to deliver infants via Caesa...

Nutrition in the first year of life is crucial to an infant&#39;s development and lifelong health. Early nutritional deficits are intrinsically linked to impaired mental and physical growth. Consequently, the risk of developing metabolic and cardiovascular diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension in childhood and later life is likely determined by early feeding and nutritional status.
Breastfeeding is the biologically superior way to feed an infant. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant&#39;s life ...

      This study shows some pretty interesting things in terms of a dramatic ability to (apparently) decrease lead status in the blood and seems to also really improve memory performance and reduce oxidative stress (from the lead) in the brain. It&#39;s really pretty impressive, especially in light of the fact that, according to this paper, the neurotoxic effects are associated with amyloid beta production. This makes it plausibly relevant in the context of Alzheimer&#39;s.
