        [Story] Boosting glycogen breakdown in neurons with tau-related damage improves symptoms of neurodegeneration, a potential strategy for Alzheimer&#39;s and related diseases.
      </h3>
</a>    <p>
      Neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer&#39;s disease and frontotemporal lobar degeneration are characterized by the abnormal buildup of tau, a protein that damages brain cells and drives cognitive decline. A recent study found that tau-related disorders in both fruit flies and humans are closely linked to neuronal accumulation of glycogen—the stored form of glucose—and that breaking down this glycogen substantially reduces tau-related brain damage.
In this study, researchers used fruit flies genetically engineered to produce a harmful form of human tau protein, as well as neurons derived from h...

</a>    <p>
      Many people find getting a good night&#39;s sleep challenging, and some research suggests that chemicals like per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), known as &quot;forever chemicals,&quot; could be part of the problem. A recent study found that PFAS exposure is linked to shorter sleep duration and increased sleep disturbances.
Researchers measured PFAS levels and proteins related to metabolism and inflammation in the blood of 136 healthy young adults. They asked the participants about their sleep duration, sleep disturbances, and sleep-related impairments.
They found that, on average, those with the ...

</a>    <p>
      Sulforaphane is a plant-based dietary compound derived from cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli (especially broccoli sprouts), kale, and others. It exerts a wide range of beneficial health effects on the human body. A new study suggests that sulforaphane mitigates sarcopenia and cardiac dysfunction via activation of Nrf2.
Sarcopenia, the loss of muscle tissue that occurs during the aging process, and cardiac dysfunction are common features of aging. Key players in the pathophysiology of these conditions are mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative damage.
