        [Story] Immune cell depletion promotes depression-like behavior, suggesting a role for regulatory T cells in mood stabilization.
      </h3>
</a>    <p>
      Regulatory T-cells, or Tregs, are white blood cells that modulate the body&#39;s immune response. A growing body of evidence points to the role of immune activation in mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression. A new study in mice shows that Foxp3, a transcription factor, influences Treg expression and activity, ultimately influencing mood.
Researchers depleted the Foxp3-expressing cells in mice and assessed the animals&#39; behavior. They found that Foxp3 depletion caused temporary anxiety and depression-like behaviors due to the activation of inflammasomes, multi-protein complexes that drive th...

</a>    <p>
      Cognitive function, including complex executive functions like working memory and basic functions like sensory processing, progressively declines with age. While executive function loss is highly variable and easily measurable in older adult populations, younger adults usually perform at a level consistent with their peers, which makes studying cognitive decline in younger adults difficult. In a 2014 report, researchers measured visual processing ability in young adults before and after supplementation with lutein and zeaxanthin.
Visual processing refers to the brain’s ability to utilize and ...

</a>    <p>
      Children in the U.S. consume ~95g of added sugar daily, almost 4 times what the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends.
The WHO guideline does not refer to the sugars in fresh fruits and vegetables since there is no reported evidence of adverse effects of consuming these sugars when they are complexed in a food matrix.
The National Growth and Health Study has also found that diets high in added sugars result in the displacement of micronutrients including low intakes of vitamins A, D, and E, calcium, and potassium.

Women with a higher concentration of Prevotella in their guts had lower brain volumes in several brain regions, such as the hippocampus, but had more connections between emotional, attentional and sensory brain regions.
While this research supports the connection between the gut microbiome and the brain, the mechanisms for how differen...

      The DHA seemed to revert the entire gene pattern back to normal in the brain. Additionally, 6 weeks of the high fructose impaired memory but… again... the DHA also reversed the learning/memory deficits.
The major source of fructose in the American diet is from sweetened beverages and processed foods. Fructose that is present in whole fruit, however, is altogether different. This is because it is complexed to a fiber matrix (which alters gut absorption and metabolism). Fruit also contains a plethora of unique prebiotics that are beneficial to gut health and immune health as well as a multitude ...

      From the article:
&amp;gt; BHB is a metabolite produced by the body in response to fasting, high-intensity exercise, caloric restriction, or consumption of the low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet. Dixit said it is well known that fasting and calorie restriction reduces inflammation in the body, but it was unclear how immune cells adapt to reduced availability of glucose and if they can respond to metabolites produced from fat oxidation.
&amp;gt; Working with mice and human immune cells, Dixit and colleagues focused on how macrophages -- specialized immune cells that produce inflammation -- respond when ex...
