</a>    <p>
      Cannabis use is prevalent among teens, whose brains are undergoing massive developmental changes. Evidence suggests that THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the primary psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, has profound effects on the brain, impairing neurodevelopment. A recent study in mice found that adolescent cannabis use influences gene expression and neural connections, potentially altering the brain’s structure.
Researchers exposed adolescent male mice to THC and then analyzed changes in gene expression and brain cell structure within the cerebral cortex—a brain region responsible for memory, t...

        [Story] Obesity-induced blood-brain barrier dysfunction: phenotypes and mechanisms
      </h3>
</a>    <p>
      The blood-brain barrier is a complex set of membranes that allows nutrients and cell signals from the bloodstream to enter the brain while excluding harmful substances. Obesity alters the blood-brain barrier&#39;s integrity, eliciting a cascade of adverse effects that influence many aspects of human health. This review describes the mechanisms that drive obesity-induced blood-brain barrier degradation and its effects.

        [Story] Magnesium Status and Stress: The Vicious Circle Concept Revisited

</a>    <p>
      Here’s an interesting report that didn&#39;t make it into this issue of the Digest.
Robust research highlights magnesium&#39;s crucial role in managing stress responses, revealing that stress can promote magnesium loss. This loss can, in turn, increase vulnerability to stress, creating a vicious cycle. This review revisits the concept of a magnesium-stress cycle, suggesting a complex interplay between stress and magnesium levels in the body.

      People that engaged in 15 minutes of aerobic exercise immediately after learning a new motor skill improved consolidation of motor memory and performed better than those that did not exercise. (But only after sleeping first.)
There may be a complex interaction between exercise and sleep with respect to motor memory consolidation. Both groups (non-exercise and exercise group) had a full night of sleep. But the exercise group did not perform better at the 8-hour mark...only at the 24-hour mark.
