Carbohydrate availability describes whether dietary carbohydrate and the body's carbohydrate stores—especially liver and muscle glycogen—are sufficient for the demands of exercise, recovery, and daily metabolism. It is not the same as energy availability, which describes the dietary energy remaining after exercise relative to fat-free mass. A person can consume enough total calories yet still have low carbohydrate availability if carbohydrate is replaced largely by fat.
Why carbohydrate availability matters

Aerobic exercise has many health benefits: It keeps the heart's structure youthful, it increases mitochondria, and it reduces our long-term risk of cognitive decline and other neurodegenerative conditions. That's just to name a few.
Exercise is also promoted widely as a strategy for weight loss—often in combination with dietary changes—as it increases total daily energy expenditure and creates an energy deficit.
While 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity exercise is recommended for general health, higher doses (200–300 minutes per week) are typically required to ach...

Our brains shrink as we grow older, but that doesn't mean you can wait until old age to worry about it—neurodegeneration starts 15–20 years before the onset of symptoms of mild cognitive impairment, dementia, or Alzheimer's disease.
Certain brain structures, like the hippocampus, are particularly vulnerable, accumulating neurofibrillary tangles, undergoing a reduction in synapses, and losing neurons.
The good news is that we can intervene in the process, and one of the most important ways to do this is to keep blood glucose levels in check.

A heart attack is a critical and often life-altering event that strikes suddenly, but its underlying causes develop over time. The heart, our body's vital pump, relies on a steady supply of oxygen-rich blood to function effectively. However, when that supply is disrupted, the consequences can be devastating. Understanding what happens during a heart attack—how the heart muscle suffers from the lack of oxygen and the chain reaction that follows—is key to grasping why prompt medical attention and preventive care are so crucial. In this article, we'll explore the intricate p...

Introduction
Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. Successful treatment hinges on early detection, but conventional screening and diagnostic approaches, often relying on tissue biopsies, come with limitations that hinder their effectiveness.
One promising solution is liquid biopsy, a groundbreaking technique that analyzes bodily fluids, such as blood, urine, lymph, and cerebrospinal fluid, for signs of cancer. When these fluids circulate near a tumor, they can acquire shed tumor cells and their components, such as DNA and RNA.

N-glycolylneuraminic acid, or Neu5Gc, is a sialic acid – a nine-carbon sugar molecule – produced by most nonhuman mammals. Sialic acids serve diverse roles, such as mediating cell-to-cell interactions, triggering cell signaling cascades, and binding to pathogens.[ref doi='10.1016/j.molmed.2008.06.002'] Humans do not produce Neu5Gc; however, trace amounts of the compound are commonly present in human urine, suggesting that Neu5Gc is obtained in the diet. Foods highest in Neu5Gc include red meat and milk. It is rarely present in fish or poultry, but eggs are rich in Neu5Ac...
