There are two new studies on maternal smoking. The first study showed maternal smoking during pregnancy may increase the risk of ADHD among offspring up to 3-fold.

The higher the cotinine (a metabolite of nicotine) levels are in the mother’s blood during pregnancy the greater is the child’s risk of developing ADHD later in life.

The second study showed that smoking even just one cigarette a day during pregnancy may double the risk of sudden death for the baby.
