Topical application of human breast milk was as effective as 1% hydrocortisone steroid cream for the treatment of mild to moderate eczema in infants (randomized controlled trial).

Human breast milk has many immunologic and anti-infective agents that act as natural antimicrobials. It also contains protective factors that provide immunity. Considering that 1% hydrocortisone cream can have side effects, this data suggests that topical application of human breast milk may be a safe and effective alternative treatment for mild to moderate eczema in babies.
