A randomized controlled trial found 4 common chemical sunscreens (avobenzone, oxybenzone, octocrylene, and ecamsule) were absorbed into the bloodstream at concentrations above the FDA’s potential toxicological threshold.

Some of the chemical sunscreen ingredients stayed in plasma up to 3 days after they were applied to the skin. It is unclear whether these ingredients have any harmful effects on human health. However, since their levels exceed the FDA threshold that means more tests on cancer, endocrine effects and more will be required to be tested by the FDA.

Here is a good wired article that covers the study: https://www.wired.com/%E2%80%A6/sunscreen-chemicals-soak-all-the-w%E2%80%A6/
