High-intensity interval training (10 minutes of vigorous exercise over a 25 minute exercise period) for 3 months reversed poor heart function in people with type 2 diabetes without any other changes in diet or medication.

The high-intensity interval training also improved aerobic capacity by 15%. Increasing aerobic capacity through exercise is one of the best ways to prevent heart disease. This is one of the first studies showing that training hard via high-intensity interval training was safe in people with type 2 diabetes with impaired function.
