Every other day fasting primarily alters the gut microbiota composition to promote the generation of acetate and lactate and this increased mitochondrial density in adipose tissue. The higher mitochondrial density in white adipose tissue caused the “browning” of the fat which results in increased energy expenditure through non-shivering thermogenesis.
Has this been tried in Humans?
I have yet to see any human data with respect to how fasting changes the microbiome.
