High refined sugar intake linked to a 23% higher risk of mental disorders independent of health behaviors, socio-demographic and diet-related factors, adiposity and other diseases. It was found that men and women with mental disorders were not more likely to consume more sugar suggesting the evidence that mental health is adversely affected by a high sugar intake is strengthened.
