This study suggests that the first 3 months after quitting smoking may be the most difficult because of the sustained reduction in dopamine but the good news is dopamine levels will return to normal after about 3 months. According to the CDC, 1,300 smoking-related deaths occur every day in the U.S. and, on average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.
