A new study finds that people who are obese with no health complications still have a 50% greater risk of heart disease and ~2x the risk of developing heart failure than people who are not overweight and in similar metabolic health. One possible mechanism for this is that being overweight and obese is often associated with low-grade inflammation that may contribute to cardiovascular disease, regardless of metabolic measures.
