Atherosclerosis is a chronic arterial disease and a major cause of cardiovascular disease-related death. This review describes current approaches to treating and even regressing atherosclerosis, including lipid-lowering pharmaceutical strategies, such as PCSK9 (proprotein convertase subtilisin-kexin type 9) inhibition and others.
