Curcumin was effective at reducing depression/anxiety by 50% in people with depression compared to placebo.

Curcumin is known to have potent anti-inflammatory effects… thus, since depression seems to be associated with inflammatory status, maybe this effect should be unsurprising! Two doses of phytosomal curcumin were used in this study (250 mg/day and 500mg/day) and both were effective at reducing depressive symptoms. Limitations of this study include the fact that changes in symptoms were self-reported… the study did include a placebo, however, and was also double-blinded.
