This 2022 review summarizes the evidence demonstrating that exercise training is a highly effective, economical, non-pharmacological strategy to maintain and improve cognitive function in aging. It also describes some of the mechanisms that drive the beneficial effects of exercise on cognitive function, including improved blood circulation, synaptic plasticity, and neurogenesis, among others.
