The study was done in mice and focused on providing the essential micronutrients (B6, B12, folate, and methionine) which must be obtained through diet. Early-life stress was shown to reduce the levels of these micronutrients and this led to lasting negative effects on learning and memory in adulthood. Some of these negative cognitive effects could be prevented by supplementation with these micronutrients in early life.
