Aliquot #4: Exercise, Inflammation and Depression
People who have depression often have elevated biomarkers of inflammation. These markers can chronically activate the body's inflammatory response system, promote the development of depressive symptoms, and induce changes in brain and neuroendocrine function. Acute activation of the immune system (from exercise or sauna use for example) can temporarily reduce inflammation and the depression that can come with it. The segments brought to you by this episode of The Aliquot feature professor of psychiatry Dr. Charles Raison.
