Exercise stresses the entire body – the heart, lungs, bones, muscles, and even the brain. The body responds by inducing a wide range of adaptations that increase its ability to cope with the stressor. An increase in muscle mass and strength is one of the primary adaptations to the stress of exercise. Some nutrients and supplements, such as omega-3s, creatine monohydrate, and whey protein, may enhance adaptations.
