“Conventional health advice, such as healthy eating, physical activity, and education level are linked with slowed epigenetic aging, albeit weakly, and obesity, sleep deprivation, and smoking are linked with accelerated epigenetic aging.”

“Dr. Roland Griffiths is a clinical pharmacologist at Johns Hopkins and one of the world's foremost researchers on the psychedelic compound psilocybin. Learn more about Dr. Roland R. Griffiths Johns Hopkins Profile - Roland R. Griffiths. List of Publications.”

“In this clip, Dr. Valter Longo describes how a fasting-mimicking diet can reduce markers of inflammation, such as C-reactive protein and Interleukin-6, possibly by killing damaged cells and regenerating others and resetting the system back to a more youthful state.”

“Recognition of this phenomenon has given rise to the concept of biological age, sometimes referred to as phenotypic age, generally recognized as a measure of a person's physiological and functional state.”

“This can lead to genomic instability – a wide range of alterations that occur in our DNA and irreversibly change the information carried in our genome. Sirtuins respond quickly to DNA damage within a cell, directing gene expression to promote DNA repair.”

“Other research indicates that metformin inhibits the exercise-induced improvements in mitochondrial respiration and limits gains in lean body mass. In this clip, Dr. Rhonda Patrick describes the many open questions that remain regarding the interaction between metformin and exercise at the molecular level.”

“EPA and DHA play particularly important roles in heart health because they participate in pathways involved in the production of hormones that regulate blood clotting and inflammation, help maintain healthy heart rhythms, and influence the contraction and relaxation of arteries.”

“In this clip, Drs. Levine and Patrick discuss definitions of aging used in science and why biological aging matters to scientists. Dr. Levine shares the hallmarks of aging that help researchers determine someone's biological age, what drives accelerated aging, and what epigenetic modifications such as CpG methylation say about the aging process.”

In this clip, Drs. Levine and Patrick discuss lifestyle factors that accelerate epigenetic aging including smoking cigarettes or having a low omega-3 index.

“Disruption of a person’s chronotypic schedule can influence mood, productivity, and disease risk because it may interfere with the duration of their REM sleep, which is essential for emotional well-being.”
