“Cancer cells exploit the regenerative capacity of telomerase to perpetually divide, essentially becoming immortal. In this clip, Dr. Elissa Epel discusses how having an optimal ratio of telomerase – high enough to reduce the risk of chronic disease, but low enough to reduce the risk of cancer – is key.”

“Autophagy is an intracellular degradation system involved in the disassembly and recycling of unnecessary or dysfunctional cellular components. Fasting – even short periods of overnight fasting that occurs during time-restricted eating – induces autophagy, providing a kind of daily maintenance for the body.”

“In fact, telomerase levels in cancer cells are often as much as 10-fold higher than in normal, healthy replicating cells. In this clip, Dr. Elissa Epel discusses how having an optimal ratio of telomerase – high enough to reduce the risk of chronic disease, but low enough to reduce the risk of cancer – is key.”

“Fasting induces a vast array of processes that not only improve overall body composition but also trigger the activation of biochemical processes and signaling pathways that optimize human performance and physiological function.”

“Hair follicles, however, have potent circadian-regulated repair mechanisms that correct and repair damaged DNA, allowing an irradiated hair cell to regenerate, unharmed. Experiments in mice have shown that these mechanisms are particularly effective after fasting.”

“A growing body of scientific evidence suggests that there is a correlation between decreased activation of the IGF-1 pathway and increased lifespan. Studies in worms and mice indicate that when the IGF-1 receptor is knocked out, the organisms remain disease-free and live longer.”

“While there are no human clinical studies evaluating the effectiveness of melatonin for COVID-19, melatonin has been shown to prevent acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome due to viral infection in animal studies.”

“Pattern matters: five drinks on one occasion is not equivalent to five spread across meals and days. Dr. Patrick discusses drinking with meals as part of the observed social pattern, not as proof that food neutralizes alcohol-related harm.”

“Researchers in Dr. D'Agostino's laboratory observed a decreased tumor burden and enhanced survival in animals that were provided a ketone supplement, even if they were fed a high-carbohydrate diet.”

“For many years, the prevailing wisdom has been that heavier loads are always better than lighter loads for building muscle. However, Dr. Schoenfeld's research indicates muscle adaptations can still occur with lighter loads.”
