“In this FoundMyFitness solo episode excerpt, Dr. Rhonda Patrick uses Dr. Bruce Ames's triage theory to explain why marginal magnesium intake may matter long before a classic deficiency appears.”

“When combined with other lifestyle behaviors, such as exercising, maintaining a healthy weight, and sauna use, using a potassium-based salt substitute is a promising, non-pharmacological approach to reducing blood pressure. Read full publication.”

“Exercise contributes to cardiovascular fitness because it exerts robust effects on the cardiovascular system, boosting heart rate, blood pressure, and cardiac output. Interestingly, sauna use exerts similar effects on the cardiovascular system.”

“A large series of systematic reviews and meta-analyses found dose-response associations between dietary fiber and lower cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer, and mortality, with randomized trials also supporting favorable effects on weight, cholesterol, and blood pressure.”

“Dr. Patrick treats magnesium L-threonate separately. Early human findings are limited by small studies, industry funding, and products that sometimes include coingredients, making it difficult to attribute effects to L-threonate alone.”

“Dr. Patrick links hypertension with cardiovascular disease and dementia risk and emphasizes magnesium-rich foods within a DASH-style pattern, including leafy greens, legumes, nuts, and whole grains. A meta-analysis found modest average blood-pressure reductions with supplemental magnesium.”

“These findings suggest that physical activity that promotes cardiorespiratory fitness might be a means to prevent dementia associated with gray matter losses. Sauna bathing is an exercise mimetic and promotes many of the cardiovascular benefits associated with exercise.”

“Last night I had the profoundly interesting experience of going straight from a super hot sauna (220 F at its hottest) directly into an ice bath (emphasis on ice... lots of ice). We alternated this for four rounds.”
