“In this member Q&A clip, Dr. Rhonda Patrick shares four practices she uses or finds compelling for healthy aging: sauna, sulforaphane-rich foods or supplements, time-restricted eating, and high-intensity interval training.”

“Insulin-like growth factor-1, or IGF-1 for short, is a protein that plays critical roles in major growth pathways in the human body. It influences nearly every tissue in the body, especially developmental growth, skeletal muscle and neurons.”

Dr. Rhonda Patrick discusses her supplement routine, Neu5Gc risks, Repatha and diabetes, heat stress, osteoporosis in men, and plyometrics.

Dr. Rhonda Patrick answers audience questions on various health, nutrition, and science topics in this Q&A session.

“As a result, sauna use is associated with lower risk of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. The mechanisms that drive these effects are likely due to increased heat shock proteins and metabolic and hormonal changes that accompany exercise and sauna use.”

“Randomized clinical trials are ongoing to investigate whether the same benefits will be observed in a real-world setting in humans. Consuming, digesting, and metabolizing food generates reactive molecules that can damage cellular components, including DNA.”

“Whereas fasting turns off multiple pathways associated with aging, such as mTOR and IGF-1, eating for optimal fitness activates these important processes. The IGF-1 pathway, in particular, plays key roles in growth and is strongly associated with cancer.”

“A ketogenic diet, which is high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbohydrates, mimics fasting by inducing metabolic switching – the capacity to shift from metabolizing glucose to metabolizing fatty acids.”

Dr. Rhonda Patrick discusses if smoked salmon is carcinogenic, high-dose melatonin, creatine on workout vs. non-workout days, and the Neurocode brain scan.

“Sauna complemented exercise; it did not replace it. She describes heat-shock proteins as stress-response proteins that help refold or clear damaged proteins. Animal work supports roles in heat adaptation and slowing muscle atrophy.”
