“Interestingly, researchers did not sequence the DNA of the bacteria that was transplanted but a reduction in butyrate-producing bacteria (which activate intestinal gluconeogenesis and butyrate supplementation can reverse insulin resistance in diet-induced obesity in mice) may partly explain.”

“Many of them are lifestyle related: poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, lack of sleep, and more. Also, especially important in the context of depression: systemic inflammation can also be increased by psychosocial stress, as well.”

“A varied diet containing berries, other fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fiber-rich foods provides a broader foundation than relying on one fruit, powder, extract, or smoothie combination. This clip is excerpted, with permission, from Dr. Rhonda Patrick's appearance on the Jack Neel Podcast.”

“A multivitamin can provide nutritional insurance when diet leaves small gaps. In older adults, a large randomized research program found a modest benefit on cognitive testing from a daily basic multivitamin.”

“The study included 9,000 mother-child pairs and corrected for numerous potential confounders in their analyses including background maternal characteristics, social factors and other aspects of maternal diet, including foods and nutrients that have been previously linked to childhood asthma and allergy.”

“More research is needed to confirm this possibility. Interestingly, some evidence suggests that people who have multiple sclerosis experience functional improvements with the fasting-mimicking diet, a dietary strategy that promotes immune cell turnover.”

“Although there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, evidence suggests that the fasting-mimicking diet may be beneficial in treating the condition. Learn about the fasting-mimicking diet in this episode featuring Dr. Valter Longo. Link to study abstract.”

“FTA:A chemical compound commonly found in coffee may help prevent some of the damaging effects of obesity. Scientists have found that chlorogenic acid, or CGA, significantly reduced insulin resistance and accumulation of fat in the livers of mice who were fed a high-fat diet.”

“Diet, baseline status, product quality, atrial-fibrillation history, bleeding risk, and medication use can all inform an individualized decision about food, testing, or supplementation. This clip is excerpted, with permission, from Dr. Rhonda Patrick's appearance on Katie Couric's Next Question.”
