“The clip also raises questions about micronutrient status. A systematic review found a slight association between vitamin D status and total testosterone, with substantial heterogeneity, and concluded that both may reflect overall health status.”

“Controlled human studies support acute brain-related responses to high-intensity exercise. Six short all-out cycling intervals improved selected learning and executive measures while increasing circulating BDNF, IGF-1, and VEGF; lactate tracked several of these changes.”

“Evidence reviewed by the International Society of Sports Nutrition supports about 4 to 6 grams per day for at least two to four weeks, with the clearest performance benefit during hard efforts lasting roughly one to four minutes.”

“Research in trained cyclists found that daily heart rate variability tracked training load and perceived exertion during an overload period, then returned toward baseline during recovery, supporting its use as a sensitive signal when interpreted against an individual's normal range.”

“In this excerpt from Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s A4M LongevityFest 2023 keynote, she reviews a randomized trial in sedentary middle-aged adults. Two years of progressive, supervised aerobic training increased VO2 max and reduced left-ventricular stiffness.”

Dr. Rhonda Patrick answers audience questions on various health, nutrition, and science topics in this Q&A session.

“I also discuss the brain benefits of lactate (it's not just a metabolic byproduct), the cancer-preventing effects of exercise, squeezing more vigorous activity into your day, and many other topics I know you'll find interesting!”

“The inclusion of active myrosinase is critical in clinical trials because although myrosinase-producing gut bacteria can convert unhydrolyzed glucosinolates to their cognate isothiocyanates, the conversion rate is highly variable and subject to interindividual differences in gut bacteria populations.”

“Studies of centenarians suggest that lower levels of inflammation are associated with longevity. Different types of fiber provide fuel to diverse species of bacteria in the gut, which then synthesize byproducts that regulate the inflammatory process.”

“Meal timing can affect selected markers in specific settings. In a five-week crossover study of eight men with prediabetes, an early six-hour window improved insulin sensitivity, beta-cell responsiveness, morning blood pressure, oxidative stress, and appetite without weight loss.”
