“While consuming a ketogenic diet, he observed that his cognitive function returned to where it was before his diagnosis. In this clip, Tim Ferriss describes his experience with Lyme disease, and how he used the ketogenic diet in conjunction with antibiotics to support his recovery.”

“A liberalized version of the diet containing more protein and (proportionately) less fat may offer much of the therapeutic potency while being easier to tolerate. This may allow more people to receive the optimal performance and health benefits.”

“Inflammation, a downstream consequence of insulin resistance, promotes the formation of reactive oxygen species and other damaging molecules, which can enter the brain via the lymphatic system.”

“In animal models, mice fed a medium-chain triglyceride supplemented ketogenic diet ran farther and faster on a treadmill than animals fed standard chow. In humans, the data supporting the benefit of ketones on performance are less clear.”

“When starting a ketogenic diet, it is important to track macronutrients, calories, and relevant biomarkers. Dr. D'Agostino notes that breath acetone is a suitable way to measure ketones if you are interested in fat loss since all the carbons in breath acetone derive from fat molecules.”

“Researchers in Dr. D'Agostino's laboratory observed a decreased tumor burden and enhanced survival in animals that were provided a ketone supplement, even if they were fed a high-carbohydrate diet.”

“At the same time, mitochondrial biogenesis increases, and reactive oxygen species and inflammatory cytokines decrease. In this clip, Dr. Dominic D'Agostino discusses how the body adapts to a ketogenic diet and the possible impacts on age-related chronic diseases.”

“Diet plays a key role in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease. The Ketoflex 12/3 diet, a form of time-restrictive eating that limits the period during which a person eats to a 12-hour window at least three hours before bedtime, promotes the production of ketones.”

Dr. Rhonda Patrick answers audience questions on various health, nutrition, and science topics in this Q&A session.

“The majority of glutamine administered orally is taken up by the liver and gut, with little ending up in the bloodstream. Dr. D'Agostino discourages supplementing with glutamine for patients with cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and even recommends they avoid high glutamine containing foods.”
