“In later randomized trials, urolithin A improved some laboratory measures of muscle endurance or hamstring strength, but it did not significantly improve key primary outcomes such as six-minute walk distance, muscle ATP production, or peak power.”

“Dr. Patrick treats magnesium L-threonate separately. Early human findings are limited by small studies, industry funding, and products that sometimes include coingredients, making it difficult to attribute effects to L-threonate alone.”

“Circadian rhythms are the body’s 24-hour cycles of biological, hormonal, and behavioral patterns. Every organ and cell has its own daily timed circadian rhythm, which influences physiological processes, including the body’s production of hormones that regulate sleep, hunger, and metabolism.”

“Breaking the fast typically occurs early in the morning, coinciding with the human body's highest insulin response. Consequently, people who break their fast later, such as midday, might not get the same metabolic benefits associated with time-restricted eating as someone who breaks their faster earlier.”

“Young people usually bounce back from muscle loss quite quickly, but for older adults, the stakes are higher, as repeated inactivity can lead to irreversible muscle loss and diminished strength, critically impacting their daily activities.”

“In a randomized crossover study of 15 adults, a single weight-based dose changed cerebral energy metabolites and reduced deterioration on some cognitive tasks during about 21 hours without sleep. Dr. Patrick uses 10 grams daily and sometimes takes more during travel or sleep loss.”

“In 25,241 adults who reported no structured exercise, a median of three one- or two-minute vigorous lifestyle bouts per day was associated with 38% to 40% lower all-cause and cancer mortality and 48% to 49% lower cardiovascular mortality.”

“A small magnetic-resonance spectroscopy study also found that 20 grams per day for four weeks increased brain creatine by an average of about 8.7 percent, showing that brain uptake is possible but variable.”

“Longer-term nutrient status offers another perspective: in a randomized trial of adults with overweight or obesity, 15 grams of psyllium daily for three months did not significantly alter serum micronutrient concentrations relative to control.”

“In a study led by Dr. Chris McGlory, young women were given 5 grams of omega-3 fatty acids daily for four weeks before wearing a leg brace for two weeks to simulate immobilization. The results showed that the omega-3s significantly reduced muscle loss.”
