Skin cells that are reprogrammed into neurons that produce dopamine will be transplanted into the brains of people with Parkinson’s disease.

Aug 20, 2018

“Skin cells that are reprogrammed into neurons that produce dopamine will be transplanted into the brains of people with Parkinson’s disease in a new trial in Japan. People with Parkinson's lose dopamine-producing neurons which are involved in motor skills. Last year this technique was shown to improve disease severity in monkeys with a disease that is similar to Parkinson's disease.”

Quitting smoking? It takes 3 months for the 15-20% dopamine drop that happens from chronic smoking to return to normal after quitting.

Jul 29, 2016

“This study suggests that the first 3 months after quitting smoking may be the most difficult because of the sustained reduction in dopamine but the good news is dopamine levels will return to normal after about 3 months. According to the CDC, 1,300 smoking-related deaths occur every day in the U.S. and, on average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.”

A small pilot study found that people with Parkinson's who walked on a treadmill 3 times per week for 8 weeks increased dopamine receptors in brain.

Nov 10, 2018

“Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that leads to the loss of dopamine-producing neurons which leads to loss of motor control. There have been a number of studies published that have shown that people with Parkinson’s disease who exercise can improve their balance and gait compared to those that do not.”

Cold exposure

Jul 11, 2026

“Whereas water immersion at warmer temperatures (90°F [32°C)]) and (68°F [20°C]) did not activate norepinephrine release, immersion at a colder temperature (57°F [14°C]) increased norepinephrine by 530 percent, dopamine by 250 percent, and energy expenditure by 350 percent, compared to pre-immersion levels.”
